The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome specific barriers to participation so they can remain in Education. The Government’s view is that the Post-16 Bursary is primarily available to support disadvantaged young people, a Post-16 equivalent of the Pupil Premium.
Young people may qualify for a mandatory bursary if they are:
- In public care
- Claiming DLA (Disability Living Allowance) and ESA (Employment Support Allowance)
- In receipt of ESA and Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Receiving Income Support in their own right
Each year we will write to all parents/carers of students in the Post- 16 department to establish who is entitled to a mandatory Bursary for that year.
Students in receipt of the Bursary will usually be required to have their own bank account to pay the Bursary into. However, taking into consideration guidance from the EFA (Education Funding Agency), the school recognises that in some cases opening an account on behalf of some of our most vulnerable students can prove difficult. Where this is the case, Bursaries can be paid into the account of the main carer who administers the DLA/PIP on behalf of the student.
For further information on Post -16 Bursaries, you can contact the school Business Manager by calling the School Office.
